2011-08-14 Santa Rosa Nazarene

This page is a collection of supplemental resources related to my ministry in the Santa Rosa Nazarene Church on August 14, 2011.   Much of this material is already available around my website; this page just conveniently gathers these resources into one place.

You can download the PowerPoint and the sermon notes from the bottom of this page.  I am writing this on the Friday before preaching it, so the sermon notes are very likely to change before Sunday.  So, early next week I'll update the sermon notes with the latest version.

Pastor Rick told me he was preaching a lot in Acts this summer so, among other things, I offered him some repackaging of this 3-sermon series out of Acts 13, 14, and 17.  He chose this option, so I repackaged the 3 sermons into this one.  However, if you want to look deeper into Paul's sermon in Antioch of Pisidia or in Athens, just click on this link that provides an overview of the series, and the preaching notes for all 3: Good News for Everyone.

The primary source material for unpacking Paul's three sermons in Antioch of Pisidia (Acts 13), Lystra (Acts 14), and Athens (Acts 17) is Contextualization in the New Testament, by Dr. Dean Flemming (a personal friend of mine).  For a little more on this book and others, take a look at Reading Suggestions.

Today's sermon does not provide much help in the area of how, exactly, to live the sort of life that results in opportunities to share the Good News with others.  For more on this, take a look at the link Evangelism for the Rest of Us.

S. P. made some insightful comments at offering time regarding Christian financial stewardship.  For more on this sort of thing, check out Tithes and Offerings.

In case you want a reminder of the short paragraph I used in the teachable moment leading up to prayer time, here it is:
God is in control, despite all appearances to the contrary.
This is what we believe.
This is what we have seen.
This is what we have to share with the world.
