Come Together Time

This morning I (and probably millions of Americans) received an email from Starbucks asking me to sign a "Come Together" petition urging our leaders in Washington to:
  1. Reopen our government to serve the people.
  2. Pay our debts on time and avoid another financial crisis.
  3. And pass a comprehensive and long-term budget deal by the end of the year.

I agree completely - with the 3 points and with their order. So I signed the petition and sent the link to several family members, urging them to sign it, too. And in this post I'm inviting you to sign it, too. Here's the link: Starbucks "Come Together" petition. You can print it out, sign the paper copy, and take it into a Starbucks. Or you can sign it online. You can also package the same message in an email to your members of Congress. To find their website/email address just follow this link to Common Cause.

To be fair, though, the chasm we see in Washington is not just a problem in our nations' capitol. Washington's divide is mainly a reflection of America's divide. I'm hopeful that as Washington relearns how to work together they will also lead and teach the rest of us how to display more cooperative attitudes in the public square.

By the way, if you are looking for another key organization advocating these concepts, check out No Labels.
