About Tim Isbell

The short version: I am a (very active) retired Christian minister with a background in integrated circuit and software development, business leadership, and personal finance. My focus is building a healthy culture by resourcing others through my website and giving time to people and projects. And I am a husband, father, and grandfather. I love and have played lots of sports: baseball, basketball, football, racquetball, and golf.

To know more: I grew up in Ohio and received a BS in Electrical Engineering from Akron University (1969).

I worked in integrated circuit development for 2.5 years at General Electric while attending graduate school in electrical engineering at Syracuse University. The next 15 years I worked at National Semiconductor (Santa Clara, CA) in integrated circuit development and engineering management, traveling extensively in the States, Europe, and the Pacific Rim. I hold five patents from that season. In 1986, I joined an electronic design automation start-up (SDA Systems) which morphed into Cadence Design Systems. For the five formative years of this new company, I served as Vice President of Operations.

I left the high-tech industry in 1990 to prepare for a season as a Christian pastor. I did volunteer ministry while attending Fuller Theological Seminary. In 1992, I became pastor of New Life Nazarene Church in Cupertino, California, and in 1996 I was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene, a church in the Wesleyan-Holiness Tradition. I served as pastor of New Life Church for 18 years. Along the way, the Lord transformed it into a multi-cultural church of 3 congregations (English, Mandarin, Cantonese) with several shared ministries (children, youth, missions, local compassion, and a preschool).

I also lived a family life. Robin and I married in 1967; we raised two children, and we now enjoy three grandchildren. Robin graduated with a degree in secondary education (math and English) from University of Toledo (Ohio) and several years later with an M.A. in molecular biology from San Jose State University (California). We have worked as a team in Christian ministry since our wedding, and even more-so at New Life (where Robin served as "Mother Superior").

Now God is blessing us with a new life and a new spirit for a new season of ministry. In May 2010, the Lord prompted us to leave vocational ministry, both to slow down and also to make room for fresh leadership at New Life. We are living this season as we have our whole lives: in ministry. We remain active parishioners at New Life and I carry a few roles in the Northern California district of the Nazarene church.

In addition, we offer ourselves in 3 ways: making free resources available through this website, giving time to help local churches, giving time to help individuals grow or recover. I also chair the Architectural Committee at our HOA of 108 townhomes.

If you see a resource on this site that you want to use, just download it. That is why it's here. If you experience the Lord working through this site, either in your life or as you share the resources with others, please send me an email.

Blessings,
Tim
